Wood Feature:
Poplar trees can grow up to 49 m tall with a trunk diameter of about 2.4m. This is probably the tallest hardwood tree in the eastern United States. The bark of the poplar tree is dark green and smooth with white transverse fibers in young trees, while in older stems its bark is dark gray and ruffled. The leaves are about 4-6 inches in diameter, usually 4 lobes, bright green, and turn yellow in the fall.
Product Application:
Poplar wood is typically used to make construction boards and plywood. The poplar's grain is straight, slightly shrinking, and gluesy lines very well. In the past they were used for vehicles, signs, saddle frames, and interior finish wood. Currently. this type of wood is very popular to make cabinets, veneer, furniture, and pulp.
